Robert Porter Cooper ’42
AFTER A LONG BATTLE with cancer, Bob died Sept. 13, 1992, in Skaneateles, N.Y., his home for the past 25 years. In 1975, Bob retired from a long career with the Genesee Valley Paper Company, after it was acquired by a conglomerate. His final position was that of branch manager in Syracuse.
Bob grew up in Rochester and joined the Class from West High. He majored in philosophy. Following graduation, he spent four and a half years in the Naval Air Corps, rising from seaman 2/c to lieutenant. After the war, he joined the advertising department of Bausch & Lomb, where he worked for five years, before going to work for Genesee Valley as a salesman.
Bob was a dedicated Princetonian, serving as president of the Alumni Assn. of Western New York and, more recently, as the 1942 regional V.P. for that area. In addition to participating in Alumni Schools Committee work, he also found time for golf and sailing. In recent years, he attended nearly every '42 gathering. He was very much in evidence at our 50th reunion, despite his failing health. Bob was very sensitive to the world around him and to his family. He possessed a great sense of humor and never took himself too seriously.
To his widow, Helen; to his son Robert; and to his granddaughter Megan; the Class offers its most sincere sympathy for their loss.
