Robert S. Dinsmore ’57

Bob died July 13, 2015, in San Antonio. While at Princeton, he joined Prospect Club and majored in mathematics.
After graduation, Bob enrolled at Stanford, where he earned a Ph.D. in mathematics. While there he worked under Gábor Szego, and during the summers he had jobs in technical operations.
Bob then worked for IBM as a systems analyst in San Jose, Sacramento, and Honolulu. He changed careers and opened three retail bookstores over a 10-year period. Later, he returned to mathematics when he formed Minicomputer Associates to market systems with in-house software packages for businesses.
Bob had a formidable intellect and wide-ranging interests in investments, mathematics, politics, genealogy, and collecting rare chess sets. He was active in the Presbyterian church.
Bob is survived by his dear daughter, Betsy, with whom he lived, and three grandchildren.
