Bob died Oct. 6, 2009, in Pelham, N.Y. He was 86.

Born in New York City, he attended the Hotchkiss School. He entered Princeton in 1942 but left at the end of the academic year to join the Navy. He became a dive-bomber pilot as a lieutenant in the Pacific theater. After his military service he joined his father and eventually became president of the R.S. Williams Ink Co. in New York.  

In later life, Bob and his wife, Nancy, founded a touring company that took young people to Europe. He was an oil painter, an avid tennis player, and a sports enthusiast.
