Robert V. Elder ’38

BOB ELDER of Brunswick, Maine, and Bristol, R.I., died July 29, 1993, from complications of Alzheimer's Disease. He had lived in Bristol for many years, working with B.A, Ballou, jewelry manufacturers in Providence, R.I.

He was an army veteran of WWII, serving in the field artillery in Europe, after which he worked as a training officer for the Veterans' Administration in North Carolina. He was recalled to Korean War service in 1950, retiring in 1952 as a major.

In Bristol, he was actively engaged in his church and in civic organizations, serving as treasurer of the First Congregational Church for 17 years and as deacon. A sailing enthusiast, he organized races and served as commodore of the Bristol Club.

Bob majored in French and roomed with Jim Smith. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Eliza (Cromartie); two daughters, Anne (Mrs. Hal) McCormack and Elizabeth (Mrs. Christopher) Coxe; and three grandchildren. They have our dear sympathy.
