Robert W. Marquardt ’42

Body

Robert Marquardt died Dec. 21, 2010, in Vero Beach, Fla.

Bob was raised in Montclair, N.J., and graduated from Lawrenceville. At Princeton he majored in economics, joined Tiger Inn, and earned a major “P” in basketball. Shortly after graduation he began service as an officer in the Army’s Second Armored Division. He participated in the invasion of Sicily. As his division was traversing the English Channel en route to Omaha Beach, his ship was blown up by German magnetic mines. Bob suffered a compression fracture of a vertebra and a compound fracture of his right leg. He spent the next 10 months in the hospital and was discharged as a captain.

Back in civilian life, Bob joined the family firm of Marquardt & Co. paper brokers. In 1952 he married Nancy Livermore. At Marquardt & Co. he was treasurer and a director, positions he held until his retirement in 1980.

Throughout his adult life Bob was an avid and successful golfer. He was devoted to his family and took great pleasure in activities that he could share with them. The class sends condolences to Nancy; his daughter, Dana Van Hook; sons Gregory and Peter; and six grandchildren.
