Robert Webster Matlack ’31

Body

THE YEARS Bob and Betty hoped to enjoy together at Medford Leas were not to be. Bob's lungs and heart gave out on him at the Memorial Hospital of Burlington County on Jan. 17, 1990.

At Princeton Bob majored in chemistry in preparation for entry into the paint and varnish industry with the George D. Wetherill Co., in which he rose to serve as president from 1943 to 1963. He was a former president of the Federation of Societies for Coating Technology, as well as of the National Assn. of Exposition Managers. Other presidencies were with the Friends Neighborhood Guild and the Cricket Club Soccer League. Bob was a former member of the Moorestown Friends School Committee, former show manager of the National Assn. of Ceramic Manufacturers, and former executive director of the Philadelphia Assn. of Metal Finishers.

His commitment to the Class is demonstrated by his former service as our V.P., and by his excellent performances as headquarters chairman at our 50th reunion and as reunion chairman at our 55th. Representing the Class at his memorial service were Meek Keen, Dave Kreityler, Bud Sagendorph, Jerry Weinstein, and Bill Wells.

Bob is survived by his widow, Betty; three sons, Louis R. *62, James H. '50, and Richard W. '63; a sister, Elizabeth Haines; and nine grandchildren. To them we express our sorrow over the loss of one with whom we shared so much that is memorable.
