Robert Westaway Jr. ’45

He entered Princeton from Lawrenceville, where he played baseball and soccer. He joined Cannon Club but left Princeton to become a bomber pilot with the 15th Army Air Force, seeing action in Italy and flying 48 missions.

In 1944, Westy married Marilyn Menschik of Westwood, N.J., and he joined A.D. Julliard & Co. in Manhattan. Bob’s work at Julliard was brief because he enrolled in an animal-husbandry course at Rutgers and, in 1953, moved to Oak Hill Farm in Palmyra, Va. Later he moved to Charlottesville, Va., where he became a real estate and stock broker.

Westy was an active gentleman, participating in sailing, golf, furniture making, and woodcarving, in addition to farming. He won several prizes for his decorative decoy ducks. In addition to Marilyn, he is survived by his daughters, Suzanne Watson and Joan Alberti; two granddaughters; and a grandson. The class expresses its sympathy to the family.
