Rockwell Morell Thompson ’38

Body

ROCK DIED Sept. 22, 1992, from complications arising from Alzheimer's disease. In 1974 he wrote his own memorial, to wit: "Soon after entering Princeton, Rock met Ray Emrich. A fast friendship developed and they worked their way through together as waiters, agency managers, and club managers. After four years in the necktie business, he toured the world at the insistence of the U.S. Navy, from Bear Island, in the Arctic, to Okinawa on the battleship SOUTH DAKOTA. After being bombed, the ship returned to the West Coast for repair. There he met Carol Foote of Seattle. Upon his being assigned to commission the heavy cruiser Los ANGELES, they were married.

"Two years at Harvard Business School produced another degree. During his business years he was in jewelry, neon signs, management engineering, mutual fund sales, and finally the Third Hand Shop at South Laguna, Calif."

In his last communication with the Class, he wrote: "It's been a great life with no regretsI'm very pleased with all that has happened." He leaves his widow, Carol, and three sons, Gary, Craig, and Todd. They have our sincere sympathy.
