Roger B. Charlesworth ’37

Body

Ardent Princetonian, sailing enthusiast, and longtime Western Electric employee Rog Charlesworth died Feb. 10, 2000, of congestive heart failure, two days before his 56th wedding anniversary with wife Sarah. He also left four children, Sukie, Nancy, Rosemary, and Roger Jr., and two grandchildren.

At Exeter, Rog was into soccer, publication, and the French Club. At Princeton, he majored in mechanical engineering and graduated with honors. For four years he was a member of the varsity squash squad and rugby ream, Yacht Club and Elm Club.

He reported, for our 50th Yearbook, that he drove a Ford around in circles at the World's Fair in 1939. His long association with Western Electric chased him around from Kearny, N.J., to NYC, to Buffalo, and finally Oklahoma. He was an industrial engineer and rose through successive levels of engineering supervision, manager of cable plant, company recruiting agent at Princeton from 1953-57, superintendent of labor relations in the manufacturing division, labor relations manager, assistant personnel director and general manager from 1961-68. He served as an officer and director of most of the charitable, civil, and cultural organizations of Oklahoma City, and after he retired, as a volunteer executive director for the Oklahoma City Community Foundation. He later retired to Kittery Point, Maine.
