Roger Henry Clarke ’38

Body

PETE, OR ROGE as many classmates knew him, died July 12, 1993, after a short illness in Rockport, Tex. He also had a summer home in Shelburne, Vt.

Pete graduated from The Gunnery School, where he was head of student govt. and outstanding in football, basketball, and baseball. At Princeton, he majored in politics and joined Cloister Inn. He played on our freshman football team, but a severe knee injury limited subsequent athletic activity.

Pete worked for Bethlehem Steel Export Corp. for 20 years. He then formed the Clarke Employment Agency in Morristown, N.J., which had several successful branches near where he had grown up in New Jersey. He was active in community and church affairs.

He is survived by his second wife, Marcelle Frey Clarke, whom he married in 1958; by sons Roger III and John '65; by daughter Anne; by two stepchildren, Marcelle and Robert Swearingen; and ten grandchildren.

To Pete's family, we extend our deepest and heartfelt sympathy.
