Roger N. Saleeby Jr. ’48

Body

OUR CLASS lost one of its most loyal and popular sons when Roger Saleeby died suddenly at his home in Cos Cob, Conn., on Oct. 12,1989.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Roger graduated cum laude in chemical engineering and received graduate degrees from M.1.T. and Harvard Business SchooI. He worked for DuPont, Atlantic Research, and Philip Morris before founding his own two consulting firms, Columbia Associates and Environmental Recovery of America.

Roger loved Princeton and delighted in bringing his family back for football games and reunions. His own football career ended prematurely with a knee injury, but he remained active in coaching Little League baseball and football. He also worked for the Alumni Schools Committee and served as a member of the Cos Cob Representative Town Meeting. His friends and neighbors in Cos Cob have established a scholarship in his name to be awarded to the outstanding scholar-athlete at Greenwich High SchooI.

Roger enjoyed a distinguished business career, but is best remembered by his classmates for his upbeat personality and sometimes raucous sense of humor. People gravitated toward Roger. One classmate who attended the memorial service reported that all six of his children participated in outstanding fashion, and that their love and respect for their father lit up the Diamond Hill Methodist Church.

Roger is survived by his widow, Vesta; four sons, Will, Roger Jr., Ben, and Dan; and two daughters, Amy and Molly. We all share in their loss and to them we extend our profound sympathies.
