Shep died July 24, 2019, of colon cancer.

The youngest of five children, Shep became an anesthesiologist, moved to Southern California, and had the pleasure of teaching residents and medical students the merits of patient care and anesthesiology.

As he wrote for our 35th-reunion book, because of Princeton and his early exposure to diverse kinds of populations, Ron dealt with all kinds of people and situations without losing sight of who he was. He treated colleagues as family and patients as friends. He never became stuffy or staid, enjoyed life to the fullest, and loved to have fun and to laugh, sing, dance, and play music.

From his first day at Princeton Ron felt blessed with the lifelong friends and experiences he knew were responsible for the person he became. In his own words, he lived a full life and hoped that all Princetonians past and future share his love for Old Nassau.

Shep is survived by his husband, Luis Hernandez. They loved traveling, hosting dinner parties, and spending time with family and friends. Shep is also survived by his mother, three sisters, goddaughter Jennifer, godson Joseph, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles.
