Roy Herd McKnight Jr. ’42

Body

ROY DIED of a heart attack Nov. 6, 1993, in Surfside, Fla. His untimely death ended a brilliant career as chairman and C.E.O. of Mylan Labs. He built the firm from a small, unprofitable generic drug manufacturer to the largest in its field, with facilities in seven states and Puerto Rico, in less than 20 years. His leadership at Mylan won him numerous awards locally and nationally, including Pittsburgh Vectors' David L. Lawrence "Man of the Year" and three consecutive "C.F.O. of the Year" awards from WALL STREET TRANSCRIPT. He was a dedicated Princetonian, enabling the Class of 1942 to establish an A.G. 50thyear record through his generous challenge grant.

Roy prepared for Princeton at Shady Side Academy, majored in electrical engineering, and was a member of Key & Seal Club. He worked initially for Westinghouse and then formed his own business in Pittsburgh. In 1975, he joined the board of Mylan Labs, becoming C.E.O. and chairman the following year.

To his widow, Betty; his daughter, Bonnie; to his sons, Gary and Stephen; and to his eight grandchildren, the class offers its most sincere condolences.
