Roy J. Kessler ’78
ROY KESSLER, 35, died of lymphoma at Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles Oct. 25, 1991. Raised on Long Island, he majored in comparative literature at Princeton. Many will recall the ease and charm with which he conversed in French, German, Russian, and Spanish,
After earning an M.B.A. at Columbia, Roy moved to Paris to work for Renault as comptroller, overseeing the company's finances in four countries. While in France he taught a G.M.A.T. study course for French students. As part of the course, he developed a computer module for student home use, which he later marketed nationwide.
Always a lover of foreign lands and exotic cultures, Roy conceived the idea of putting World Almanactype data into a software format which would be easily accessible and capable of generating immediate statistical comparisons among different countries through the use of colorful graphics. This idea became PC Globe, Inc., which Roy founded in Phoenix in 1987. The company was a tremendous success, and its flagship program, PC Globe, is today marketed in 12 countries; specialized versions are used by the U.S. military and corporations in their training programs. Roy was chairman of the board and majority stockholder of the company at the time of his death.
Roy is survived by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Jerome Kessler, and his sister Marjorie. The Class extends its deepest sympathy to each of them. We shall all miss this brilliant, energetic, original, and kind man,
