Samuel Biddle ’34
SAM BIDDLE, an enthusiastic and devoted Princetonian and Class member, died of pneumonia in Washington, D.C., on Mar. 12, 1990, three weeks before his 77th birthday. He retired in 1986 as a V.P. of Thomson McKinnon Securities, Inc. (formerly Auchincloss, Parker & Redpath), after nearly 40 years in the securities/investment business. During WWII he served as an intelligence officer in the Navy, earning a letter of commendation, four battle stars, and four area ribbons.
His service to Princeton and the Class included: chairman, Alumni Council Committee to Nominate Alumni Trustees; regional group chairman for Annual Giving; member, Class executive committee (1955-59); and director of our mini-reunion in Chevy Chase in 1984, coincident with the Navy football game at Annapolis. Since 1965 Sam had lived in the house he bought (sans broker) from Bill Selden when Bill moved to Princeton.
Surviving are his wife of nearly 48 years, Sallie Metz Biddle (Vassar '38), whom he met while both were studying at Yale; a daughter, Cornelia (Mrs. Charles M. II) Saltzman; a son, John M. Biddle II; and two grandchildren. To them we offer our sincere sympathies.
