Samuel C. Farmer III ’45

Body

Sam Farmer died peacefully Feb. 25, 2010, surrounded by his family in Richmond, Va.

Sam entered Princeton from Exeter, preceding his brother John ’47. He played varsity lacrosse and joined the St. Paul’s Society and Ivy. His Princeton career was interrupted by World War II service with the 5th Armored Division, where he saw combat in five battle campaigns in Europe.

He began his career with Essex Wire in Birmingham, Mich., a Detroit suburb. He then moved to Rumson/Fair Haven, N.J., where he remained for 46 years before retiring as senior vice president of Feist & Feist Realty.

An avid sailor, Sam was a member of the Sea Bright Beach Club and served as president of the Dads of Fair Haven Sailing Club. He finally moved to Richmond, the hometown of his wife, the former Dorothy Alsop, whom he married in 1949.

In addition to Dorothy and John, survivors include another brother, Edward; three sons, Samuel IV, James, and Robert; a daughter, Elizabeth; and eight grandchildren. The class expresses its sympathy to the family.
