Samuel M. McAshan ’27
SAMUEL M. MCASHAN died Mar. 24, 1993, at his home in Houston.
Sam was born June 5, 1905, in Houston, and came to Princeton from Lawrenceville. He was manager of the track team, a member of the Triangle Club, chairman of the Undergraduate Athletic Committee, and a member of the senior council and Charter Club.
For many years he served as president, and later chairman, of Anderson Clayton and Co. in Houston, merchandising cotton and coffee. From 1941 to 1944, he was head of the U.S. Purchasing Commission in Rio de Janeiro, for which he was decorated by the Brazilian government. He was a member of the Houston Business Council and a trustee of the Clayton Fund, Baylor College of Medicine, and the Fletcher School for Law and Diplomacy in Medford, Mass.
In 1928, he married Susan Clayton. He is survived by her, and by three nieces and two nephews, the children of his deceased brothers Harris '29 and James E. '32.
