Scott Opler ’78

SCOTT OPLER died of complications from AIDS at Harvard's Stillman Infirmary July 7, 1993. Scott was a Ph.D. candidate in 15th and 16thcentury Italian Renaissance architecture.

Born at Camp Pendleton, Calif., Scott lived in Hinsdale, Ill., before attending Deerfield Academy. At Princeton, Scott majored in art and archaeology and belonged to Ivy Club. He worked in Paris during the summer of 1976 through Princeton in France.

After living for two years in NYC, Scott relocated to Los Angeles, where he taught history and English at the Buckley School. He later enrolled at Williams, studying art history and assisting with research at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute. In 1987, he earned his master's and began doctoral studies at Harvard. He lived in Rome in 1990 and 1991, researching a dissertation on the architectural and urbanprojects patronage of Pope Pius IV.

Throughout his illness, Scott participated in an epidemiologic study through the U.C.L.A. School of Public Health and the Nail. Institutes of Health.
