Sheldon S. MacLeod ’49

Shel died Dec. 28, 2008. He was 80. 

He prepared for Princeton at Deerfield Academy. His time at Princeton was interrupted by Army service from 1946 to 1948. An economics major at Princeton, Shel was a member of Whig-Clio, the Glee Club, and Dial Lodge.

Shel started his employment career with General Electric, mostly in Cleveland, but with extensive travel. In 1959 he left GE to open his own travel agency, which he and his wife, Marilyn, ran until selling it in 1990. He was active in travel-industry affairs on both the national and international levels. He was a director of the association of Retail Travel Agents for 20 years and served as its president for over five years. 

After retirement Shel and his wife became active in the Cleveland Opera and the Western Reserve Historical Society. He also served as a councilman in Orange Village. He enjoyed tennis, bird watching, and walking.

Shel is survived by Marilyn. The class extends its sincere sympathy to her on our shared loss.
