Sheridan H. Garth ’33

Body

SHERRY GARTH, described by a classmate as a "blithe spirit," died Dec. 13, 1989, in Greenwich, Conn. He lived in Riverside, Conn.

Sherry was born Sept 14, 1911, in St. Louis, Mo., and later lived in Washington, D.C., and N.Y.C. He prepared at Choate. In college he was in Theatre Intime and the Glee Cub, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He roomed with Sam Bossard.

After college, Sherry began a lifelong connection with Thomas Cook and Son, involving public relations, tour direction, writing travel guides, and lecturing on cruises. He had a command of five languages.

During WWII, Sherry served in the U.S. Navy, remaining in the Naval Reserve after the war, and becoming a commander.

On Sept. 1, 1956, Sherry married Helen Hayden. She and their children survive: Victoria Sue, of London, England, and Gloriana, of Baltimore.

Sherry spent so much time on the road and at sea, or at his log chalet at North Pomfret, Vt., that we didn't see nearly as much of him as we would have liked. He had to settle for last minute messages that he was off on a cruise, often with his family. We have lost a good friend, and send our condolences to Helen and their daughters.
