Spen died on May 13, 1989, in the Mansfield (Ohio) Gen¬eral Hospital after a short illness.
Spen prepared for Princeton at University School, in Cleveland. At Princeton, he majored in English, partici¬pated in the Theatre Intime, and was a member of Cam¬pus Club. In 1954, he took over the manage¬ment of The Book Shop, in Mansfield. He continued as owner/manager until his death. The theater was Spen's avocation.
