Stephen died Feb. 21, 2022, in hospice from a glioblastoma in Sacramento, Calif.

At two high schools he was a member of the band, orchestra, glee club, National Honor Society, and played baseball. A biology major at Princeton, he sang in the Chapel Choir, played varsity baseball, and was a member of the Woodrow Wilson Society.

Earning a medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in 1967, he served two years as an Air Force medical officer in Korea and at Edwards AFB in California. He married Marilyn Berndt in 1969. That same year he began to practice family medicine and dermatology as a member of the Permanente Medical Group in Sacramento until his retirement in 2005. Marilyn died in 2024.

In retirement he indulged in his love of photography, gardening, and grandchildren. His daughter Marcy remembers a loving father, something of a joker, who was especially close to his two siblings, Lois, who died in 2013, and Lewis ’64, who followed him to Princeton. In addition to his brother, and his daughter Marcy, Stephen is survived by his son, Darrell, and two grandchildren. The class extends its sympathy to the family.
