Susan H. Burgess ’77

SUE BURGESS DIED Sept. 3, 1993, in Wappingers Falls, N.Y., of complications from a brain tumor for which she had twice undergone surgery.

A chemicalengineering major who graduated magna cum laude, Sue was a coxswain on the crew team. "Crew is the only sport where you try to sit on your a and go backwards," she wrote, with characteristic humor, in the NASSAU HERALD. "Unfortunately, I often did the same playing ice hockey."

She worked in several engineering jobs at Monsanto and as director of strategy at Creative Output, Inc., a consulting and management education company. Then, she earned a Ph.D. in engineering management at the Univ. of Missouri at Rolla. She later worked as an operationsresearch specialist at Northwest Airlines, where she wrote computer programs to forecast market shares on domestic flights.

Her brain tumor, diagnosed in 1988 and operated on the following year, was in remission until last summer. After a second operation, her doctors concluded that further chemotherapy was inappropriate. She spent the rest of the summer with family and friends in Wappingers Falls.

Sue attended our 15th reunion in 1992, and classmates marveled at her courage, her stamina and once againher humor. Throughout her ordeal, she never complained and insisted she was not in pain.

She is survived by her parents, Chester and Betty. The class extends its deepest sympathy to them.
