Sydney Edgar Sinclair ’32

Body

SYD SINCLAIR, a dedicated pediatrician and medical administrator, died of a stroke May 17, 1991. Born and raised in Williamsport, Penn., he practiced for much of his life in his home town. He came to us from Haverford School, roomed with Charlie Bergh, ran track, played on the soccer team, and was a member of Cloister Inn.

Syd got his medical degree from the Univ. of Pennsylvania and then went to Yale to specialize in pediatrics. He interned in Detroit at the Henry Ford Hospital, returned to New Haven to practice, and then went to the Children's Hospital in San Francisco. During WWII he served in the South Pacific as a lieutenant com_ mander on the destroyer EATON. At war's end he returned to Williamsport and began a 20year practice at the Divine Providence Hospital. From 1963 to 1974 he was V.P. of medical affairs for Blue Shield in Pennsylvania. He then became a quality insurance coordinator at the Williamsport hospital. He retired, finally, in 1980. A member of Trinity Episcopal Church, he was also an ardent and skillful trout fisherman. He is survived by his widow, Helen, to whom he was married for 57 years, and by two sons, Sydney Mervyn and Thomas Matier. Our sympathies go to them at the loss of this fine physician and devoted medical administrator.
