Talcott Griswold ’62

Body

Talcott “Tim” Griswold died at home in Carlsbad, Calif., March 3, 2009, from pulmonary fibrosis. He had been in hospice care for six weeks.

Tim came to Princeton from North Shore Country Day School of Winnetka, Ill. A history major, Tim lived with Jim Hunter, Chris Binner, Peter Boysen, and Don Marquet senior year and ate at Cannon Club (and he was pleased when his second wife, Shirley, finally met his friends). After traveling through Europe with John Harris and Chris, he received a Naval OCS commission, serving on the USS DuPont for three years with Brian Galbraith.

Tim then worked for Continental Illinois in international banking for two years, resigning to tour Portugal in a VW camper. When funds ran out, he moved to San Diego and re-entered banking “to pay the bills.”

Tim survived lung cancer in 1997, but his health was affected by the October 2007 wildfires in Southern California and his weight dropped below 80 pounds at the end. Several of his classmates either visited him or called him in early 2009 — including Chris, on March 3.

The class extends its condolences to his widow, Shirley, his stepchildren, and seven grandchildren.
