Terry S. Osborne ’81

Body

Terry died Sept. 7, 2020, after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Terry grew up in Lake Forest, Ill. At Princeton he majored in English, captained the men’s hockey team, and graduated cum laude. Terry roomed all four years with Kelly Doherty ’81. Freshman year Terry met classmate Robin Bennett. They married in 1985 and raised two sons, Carry and Jacob.

After Terry earned a master’s degree in English literature and American studies from the University of Chicago, he and Robin moved to Vermont. Terry joined the Dartmouth College community as a senior lecturer in the Environmental Studies Program and the Institute for Writing and Rhetoric.

In addition to teaching, Terry was a writer of articles, essays, and book reviews. His book, Sightlines: A View of a Valley Through the Voice of Depression, was published in 2001. Terry contributed enormously to the Dartmouth community and was a beloved educator. In 2017 he received the Dean of the Faculty Teaching Award and was chosen as one of three speakers for a farewell talk to graduating seniors.

Terry remarried in 2009 to Mary Kay “MK” Beach. He will be missed immensely by many family members and friends, including his 1981 classmates.
