Theodore Clare Nevins Jr. ’40

Ted died Nov. 2, 2009. We will miss this exemplar of the loyal Class of 1940.

Ted prepared at Northwood School and followed his father, Theodore Sr. ’14, to Princeton. He majored in psychology, lettered on the varsity hockey team, and was a member of Cottage Club.

During World War II, Ted served in the Marine Corps as a flight instructor at Pensacola and as a captain in the Air Transport Command in the South Pacific.

He joined the family business, The Nevins Company, which later was acquired by Union Camp Corp. In 1962, he was named general manager of Union Camp Corp. and the Stone Mountain Division. From 1977 until his retirement, he was corporate vice president of sales.

Ted served as president of the Princeton Alumni Association of Montclair, N.J., chairman of the area’s Annual Giving campaign for the class, and a member of several class councils. He also was a councilman in the Borough of Essex Fells, N.J., and president of several national business associations.

Ted particularly enjoyed playing golf with classmates in Scotland and Ireland.  

He is survived by his wife, Martha (Yaworsky); and their children, Audrey, Teddy, Billy, and Marty. His classmates wish to offer their deep sympathies.
