Theodore Henry Buenger ’41

Body

Ted "Dutch" Buenger died of cancer at his Northfield, Ill., home Aug. 29, 1997. His wife of 54 years, Priscilla "Pat" Reitz Buenger, survives.

Born in Chicago, Ted grew up in Winnetka, majored in politics, and belonged to Quadrangle. He skippered a subchaser in the war, mostly on the Atlantic. Back in Chicago he rose to become board chairman of Dovenmuehle Inc., a mortgage banking company, and in 1960 was president of the Mortgage Bankers Assn. of that city.

The many who were fond of Ted in college will not be surprised at his devotion to civic and social service affairs. He was a Northfield village trustee in the early 1960s and president of the Sunset Ridge District 29 board of education. He also was on the board of Metropolitan Family Services in Chicago. A memorial service was held in St. James the Less Episcopal church with the family request that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Hospice of the North Shore.

In addition to Pat, survivors arc sons Ted Jr.'67 and Richard; daughters Nancy, Suzy, and Betsy Shults; a brother, Richard E.'44; and eight grandchildren, one of whom, Rebecca Shults, is Class of '98 ... "and loves it." We will all miss Dutch.
