Theodore Washburn Baldwin ’25

Ted Baldwin was born in Lakewood, N.J., on Mar. 16, 1903, and attended the Hill School and Exeter. He was with us only during freshman year. He went to Paris to continue his study of English at the Univ. of Paris and to work for his father, Elbert Francis Baldwin, the editor of Outlook Magazine. He also studied voice in Vienna.

Ted served as a lieutenant commander in the Navy during WWII. He was stationed in N.Y.C., Pearl Harbor, and in Casablanca, where he was a liaison officer with the French Navy. After the war, he worked for the government in Sacramento, Calif. He retired in 1969 and moved to Gualala, Calif. He maintained an interest and concern in ecology.

His first wife, Katherine, died in 1943. In 1959, he married Ruth Clark. She predeceased him in 1972. Ted died in Sherwood Health Center, in Ft., Bragg, on Aug. 2, 1989. He is survived by a stepson, a stepdaughter, and a sister, Gertrude Hume, of Rockford, Me.
