THOMAS KATES was born May 2, 1960, in Norwood, Mass., and died Mar. 31, 1993, in his home in Norwood, of a heart arrhythmia. Services were held in St. Timothy's in Norwood.

Toni prepared at Xavier and Choate. At Princeton, he played freshman football and served as a southpaw pitcher for the varsity baseball team. An economics major, Tom was part of Princeton's sports information department, and worked at Victor's. After graduation, Tom wrote poetry and worked in banking and financial planning until his first heart arrhythmia, three years before his death.

The class extends its deepest sympathies to Turn's widow, Stephanie Cramer Kates; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William J.; his brothers, William, Gerard, Kenneth, James, and Joseph; his sisters, Amy and Janet; and his eight nephews and nieces.
