Thomas Luke ''Tim" Matthews died May 1, 1993, in Rohnert Park Calif., where he had lived since 1987. Tim had been in poor health for several years.

He was born in Baltimore, the son of Ambassador H. Freeman '21. After his childhood in Cuba and France before WW II, the family moved to Bethesda, Md. He prepared at Lawrenceville and entered Princeton after that, bur left to serve in the Marine Corps from 1953-55 on the U.S.S. Des Moines. He returned and graduated in 1958, bur remained a member of '55.

Tim was married to Emily Hill, and they lived in Princeton, where their three children were born. He was a securities broker for Hornblower & Weeks, and became manager of the firm's Trenton office. In 1972, he was transferred to San Francisco. Later, he became a self-employed investment counselor.

At Princeton, Tim majored in Modern languages and literature and was a member of Tower. Tim enjoyed tennis and golf and was an avid spores fan. He was a loyal Princetonian who for a time was our reunion chairman.

His was divorced in 1985. Survivors include son Thomas A., daughters Elizabeth Chapman and Janet L., two grandchildren, and brother H. Freeman.
