TOM MENSON died Sept. 14, 1992, after a courageous battle with cancer. Tom and his family had recently returned from Budapest, where be served as a U.S. government senior adviser to the Hungarian minister of Finance. Prior to working overseas and following a successful career as a banking executive in Connecticut and Vermont, Tom was appointed commissioner of banking and insurance for the state of Vermont and, later, secretary of administration, the senior budget and policy post in the state cabinet. He was also a faculty member in the public administration program at the Univ. of Vermont and served on the boards of the Greater Burlington Industrial Development Corp. and the Vermont Mozart Festival.

Tom was born Apr. 27, 1946, in Chicago. He graduated from Conrad H.S., where lie was captain oft he swimming team and a member of the student council and National Honor Society. At Princeton, Tom made dean's list four years, majored in the Woodrow Wilson School, and participated in WhigClio, the Memorial Fund Drive, and freshman swimming. He was an active member of Cloister Inn, serving as treasurer and as a member of the board of trustees and bicker committee.

Tom was an avid sailor, reader, and writer and was published in the JOURNAL OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION. He will be remembered for having applied his inquisitive mind and vast experiences to a broader consideration of the issues and to the creation of growth opportunities for I all those around him.

The Class extends its profound sympathy to Tom's widow, Molly Dillon; son Paul; stepson John; his parents, John and Elizabeth Carroll; and siblings John, Richard, Robert, James, Betsy McKinstry, and Susan Edwards. We will greatly miss his friendship, but we will be inspired by memories of his intelligence, vitality, and good humor.
