One of his colleagues said at the time of his death that "Thomas Rutter was one of the best-trained surgeons in the Northwest, and an exceptional clinician. When he turned his attention to administrative matters, he again proved his excellence. Thomas Rutter was an admirable man and friend. He is missed by all of us who knew him well. He'll be missed by many who never heard of him."
Tom came to Princeton from Deerfield, majored in biology, graduated with honors, and went on to graduate from Harvard Medical School in 1945. He became chief of surgery in the U.S. Army at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., and completed 32 years of outstanding service in the medical profession in Medford. The class extends its sincere sympathies to his widow, Joanna; his sons, Sigurd, Duncan, and Lincoln; his daughter, Elizabeth; and his stepson and stepdaughter, James and Annette.
