Thomas Walter Stuart ’48

For the final 59 years he found his bride, Joan, “a great and positive help.” She had her own career as a tax and estate lawyer and as the mother of their three girls.

Tom joined us from the Haverford School. At Princeton he was active in Elm Club and Whig-Clio. His degree was from the Woodrow Wilson School. His business career was in engineering consulting and operating a lumber company until he retired in 2004. His civic concerns were widespread, ranging from mentoring at a Philadelphia school to volunteering at a clinic for hearing-impaired youngsters in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

Tom met regularly for lunch at the Merion (Pa.) Cricket Club with friends from ’47, ’48, and ’49.

He is survived by Joan; their daughters Pamela and Leslie, and five grandchildren. Their daughter Patricia died in 2007.
