Tyler Defrance Evans ’46

Ty was born in Hinsdale, Ill., but grew up in Ridley Park, Pa., and entered Princeton in 1942. He majored in organic chemistry and graduated in September 1945, when he enlisted in the Marine Corps.

He served three tours in Korea, earning five battle stars, two unit citations, and a decoration for personal heroism. He served as captain parade adjutant at the Marine barracks in Washington, D.C., and as a White House aide. He retired from the Marine Corps Reserve as a lieutenant colonel after 21 years of service.

Ty retired as business and sales manager for a chemical-distribution company, and had resided in New York City, Cleveland, and Chicago. Active in his local Episcopal churches, he was a member of the National Beagle Club. After retirement he lived in Birmingham, Ala.,   and Johnson City and Knoxville, Tenn.  

Ty is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Evans Bayley, and numerous nieces and nephews, to whom the class extends its  

condolences.
