Wallace E. Silver ’52
AFTER TWO MASSIVE STROKES, Wallace Silver died in Santa Barbara, Calif., Dec. 22, 1991. His funeral was held in the chapel at the Naval Weapons Center in China Lake, Calif., where he had worked for 30 years. He had retired Apr. 1, 1991.
Wally was a creative student and a serious ecumenist. At Princeton, he majored in Spanish, and studied Biblical languages at the Seminary. A fouryear member of the Hillel Society, he also belonged to the Student Christian Assn, and volunteered with the Jamestown Group.
After two years in the army, he briefly did accounting. From 195761, Wally studied chemical engineering at the Univ. of Colorado, Boulder. He married Joan Woelfel in 1961. At the Naval Weapons Center, Wally had a distinguished career. He was involved in 10 ordnancerelated patents, and received the Haskell Wilson Invention Award in 1988.
Wally traveled extensively for the Southern California Schools Committee. He was a member of Sigma Xi, of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and of the Princeton Clubs of N.Y.C. and Southern California.
Wally is survived by Joan; son Nathan; brother Herbert; and by his mother, Sarah Silver. To them we offer our profound sympathies,
