Wallace Stuart McCloy Jr. ’60

Body

Stu came to Princeton from Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va., where he was a standout on the tennis team and valedictorian of his class. At Princeton he was a member of Quadrangle (vice president his senior year) and played freshman and varsity tennis. He majored in English through the Special Program in the Humanities.

After Princeton he graduated from Vanderbilt University Law School. Stu attained the rank of captain in the Army while serving a two-year tour of duty at Fort Bragg, N.C. He returned to Memphis and began to practice with his father’s law firm. He was a successful attorney for many years.

Stu became the proud father of five children and three grandchildren. He continued to play tennis with his Memphis friends. His love of literature accompanied him throughout his life, and he went on to write many original plays and poems. His astute intellect and compassion toward the world and those he loved made him an inspiration to all.

The class extends its deepest sympathy to his children and grandchildren.
