Walter Abraham Miller ’25
WALT MILLER was born in Brooklyn on Dec. 23, 1903, received his law degree from Brooklyn Law School in 1928, married Betti Schellenberg there in 1929, practiced law there for 64 years, and died there of a heart attack, at the Long Island College Hospital on Sept. 24, 1992.
He came to us from Erasmus Hall High School and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He was a loyal member of the Class and attended many reunions.
After founding his own law firm, he served on the State Health Planning Commission, a state commission on the care of the aging, and on Mayor Robert Wagner's committee on youth and work, of which he was chairman in the 1950s. He was founding director of the Federation Employment and Guidance Service, a non-sectarian affiliate of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies, and was president from 1940 to 1960, when it cared for many war veterans.
Among his clients were Emigrant Savings Bank, the Central Brooklyn Medical Group, and the Martindale Hubbell Law Directory.
He is survived by his widow, three daughters, and five grandchildren.
