Walter Daspit Jr. ’41

Body

JERRY DASPEI died of lung cancer in Sarasota Sept. 22, 1991. With the help of his children Linda and Jay he had been able to attend 1941's 50th Celebration last June.

Jerry was born in Tulsa but grew up in the Chicago suburb of Rogers Park. He went to Chicago Parker School, one of the first "progressive" institutions in the U.S., where he captained the football team and was president of the student council. At Princeton he roomed with Dray Dayton and Ted Buenger, graduating with certification from the School of International Affairs.

After four years of military service, Jerry embarked on successful careers in advertising, Illinois State capital construction and financing, private real estate sales and property management consulting. His wife jean died in 1976,

His daughter Linda Burgess writes of her father, "Dad looked forward to getting back on campus for the 50th with great reverence. [he was] a man of quiet integrity, mixed with subtle humor and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and information that took hold among the ivy at P.U. He was a Tiger to the end." Our sympathy goes out to Linda, to son Walter III, and to two grandchildren.
