Walter Harold Johnson Jr. ’48

Walt Johnson died Jan. 2, 2010, at home in hospice care. He had been in failing health for some time.

Walt had four terms in V-12 at Drew University prior to joining us in November 1945. He was a graduate of Collingswood (N.J.) High School. A member of Key and Seal at Princeton, he graduated in February 1948 with a bachelor’s degree in basic engineering that earned him his first position, with Atlantic Refining. After a move to Campbell Soup, he made his final career switch to Sun Oil, where he worked as manager of domestic lube supply until his retirement in 1988.

Walt had a stroke in 1993 and moved to Venice, Fla. He loved fishing, especially deep-sea fishing. He was an avid tennis player and captain of the North Port Hornets. As a ham-radio operator, he was able to talk frequently with Don Reed.

Walt is survived by his widow, Paula, and his sons, Tom and Walter III. He was predeceased by his daughter, Sandra.
