Walter Harrah Hayden ’44

Body

WALTER WAS TAKEN by cancer July 8, 1991, in St. Augustine, Fla. He did not keep in touch with the Class sadly our misfortune, because his life held excitement. He came to Princeton a firstclass polo player. He and his brother formed a team which won the national indoor championship in '38, '39, and '40. He captained the Princeton polo team. Walt was an officer in the paratroops and an aide to several generals, in particular the illustrious Gen. Gavin. He left the Service as a major and then mixed a career in Florida real estate with high-goal polo into his 40s. He married three times. He leaves his widow, Rachel; two sons, William and Peter; a daughter, Moya Litt; three grandchildren; and two sisters. To his family our deepest sympathy, with regret that we couldn't share more of his life.
