Walter Hirshon ’28

WALT HIRSHON died May 12, 1991, at his home in Sands Point, 11. He graduated from the Horace Mann School He left college, after two years, to begin his business career as a stockbroker in New York, and remained active in the business for 56 years. He worked for W.H. Goadby & Co., and then in 1930 became an independent broker on the New York Stock Exchange.

During WWII he spent several years as an intelligence officer with the U.S. Army Air Corps. In 1957 he co-founded Hirshon, Roth & Co. He retired in 1982. Walt had international interests, and was a director of corporations in France and Switzerland. He was a member of the River Club in New York and the Sands Point Golf Club.

Walt married jean McGraw on May 11, 1931. A daughter Wendy, now Mrs. Morse, was born in 1937. Walt's second marriage was to Dorothy joy Richards, on Dec. 19, 1941. A daughter joy, now Mrs. Briggs, was born in 1945. Walt's last marriage was to Helen Gross, who survives him; as do his two daughters; two stepsons, John Raiss and James Raiss; one stepdaughter, Linda Dodd; five grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren.

Walt kept in touch with his Princeton classmates and friends, and was a regular attendant at Class dinners and luncheons at the Princeton Club of New York. The deep sympathy of the Class is with Helen and their family.
