Walter J. Schob ’26

WALT SCHOB, well known industrialist and civic leader, and ardent supporter of the Class of 1926, died Feb. 11, 1992, at age 88, of complications following surgery at osteopathic Medical Center in Philadelphia, where he had been taken in an emergency a week before. There are few more challenging tasks for a Princeton alumnus than to serve as chairman of a major Class reunion. the Class of 1926 has lost in Wait Schob one who very successfully chaired five. The talents that Walt showed in service to Princeton and the Class were evident in his life. In 1928 he founded the Serta Mattress Co., and he was its president from 1936 to 1966. Ile was very active in business associations as well as religious and charitable activities. He served a term as president of the Bedding Manufacturers Assn, and in 1967 was its Man of the Year.

Among his charitable activities, Walt was a longtime trustee of Northeastern Hospital, Philadelphia, and was its president for nine years. He served for many years on the vestry of St. Asaph's Church.

Walt's wife, Alice, predeceased him by four months. He is survived by a son, Walter J. Jr. *63; a daughter, Alice Roberts; three grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; and a sister, Marie. We join them in loving remembrance of Walt.
