Warren S. Zweiback ’57

ONE OF OUR Class's dear and genuine characters died Apr. 21, 1993, as a result of a car accident. Horsey was driving home from a checkup on his recent heart transplant, when his Bronco lost control and left the road.

At Princeton, Horsey majored in English and was a member of Tiger Inn. His activities included hockey, baseball, football, managing Triangle Club, and the Memorial Fund committee. His senior roommates were George Scurria, Dean Groell Tom Daly, Peter Wiese, Pete Adams, Fred Alyea, and Bob Mulcare.

Upon graduation, he married his "Smithie," Judy Gimp, and entered Columbia Law School. They subsequently divorced. He became a Harlan Fiske Stone scholar and was elected alumni president of his class. He clerked for judge L. P. Moore, as well as L. Hand and Harold Medina, before becoming an associate with Cravath, Swaine & Moore in N.Y.C.

He returned to his birthplace, Omaha, where he became a partner in Monsky, Grodinsky, Good & Cohen and was also busy raising a family. He was active in many community activities. Horsey founded the law firm of Zweiback, Hertz and Lamberty, where his specialty was trial work and family law. He was elected to the "Best Lawyers in America' and to the "American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers."

In 1983, Horsey experienced painful angina, which led to successful bypass surgery that year. In June 1992, he suffered a severe heart attack. The anterior wall of his heart was virtually ruined. A heart transplant followed, at Park City, Utah, but the new heart tended to reject Horsey, forcing him to take 45 pills a day.

He kept his good spirits to the end, even attending his 35th Princeton reunion in 1992. To his former wife, Judy; his children Jeffrey, Timothy '81, and Wendy; grandson Zane; and his brother Speedy '59; the Class of '57 extends its sincerest condolences. He will be missed.
