Wilbur Thornton Meek ’22

WILBUR MEEK DIED Dec. 8,1990, two months short of his 91st birthday. He was buried in Simsboro, Tenn., his hometown for many years. His wife, Elaine, whom he married in 1941, predeceased him. Wilbur is survived by three children and seven grandchildren.

Prof. Meek received an M.A. and a Ph.D. from Columbia University and was a veteran of WWI. He taught economics at a number of colleges and universities here and abroad during his 50year teaching career. He was fluent in Spanish, and all of his courses in South America were conducted in that language. He also ran a family owned and operated chicken business for 20 years that produced six million broilers.
