Wilder Graves Penfield Jr. ’41
Wilder died of leukemia in Montreal on Oct. 1, 1988. He was one of two Canadians who joined our class in the fall of 1937. His family is replete with Princetonians: his father (Wilder Sr. '13), his brother (A. Jefferson '49), a brother-in-law (William A. Chester '46), a niece (Dr. Caroline Penfield Yavetz '78), and two cousins (Paul Penfield '23 and Thornton Penfield Jr. '21).
From 1941 to 1945, Wilder served in Italy and Holland as a captain in the Canadian Intelligence Corps. After the war, he studied for his master's degree at the Univ. of Toronto. He was export manager of the Borden Chemical Division in New York until 1954, when he became a partner in the firm of Lewis, Kufer and Penfield Import-Export Co. of Montreal. In his later years, he was director of vocational development at Dawson College, in Montreal.
Wilder is survived by his widow, Berry Bonynge, a son, Wilder III, and a daughter, Wendy. The class sends its deepest sympathy to his family.
