Willard B. Wood Jr. ’27

WILLARD "BILL" WOOD JR. died Feb. 4, 1993, in Summit, N.J., of a respiratory infection, after surviving a tree falling around him at the house of his daughter, Pat Barber, in New Vernon, N.J.

Born Apr. 12, 1906, in Newark, N.J., he came to Princeton from Southside H.S. At Princeton, he was a member of Clio, the University orchestra and band, Triangle Club, and Terrace Club. He also managed the Gym Team. He roomed with J. W. Kumm in his sophomore and junior years, and senior year with Donald C. Fraser.

After graduating in engineering, he became V.P. and later president of his father's office furniture business in Newark. He was active with the Natl. Office Furniture Assn. and the Canal Brook and Pinchurst golf clubs.

On Oct. 28, 1937, he married Helen Plunkett in White Plains, N.Y. They had two children, Patricia Ann (Mrs. Wayne Barber) and Willard B. III. He retired in 1971 and moved to Boca Raton and later Delray Beach, Fla. His wife died in 1987, and Bill moved back to Summit, where he lived at 3 Oak Knoll Rd.

His close friends at Princeton were Bill Rhees, Lou Bodman, Tom Hanna, and Chick Hendricks.

He is survived by his two children and five grandchildren, to whom the Class extends its sympathy.
