Willhun Frederick Hofmann Jr. ’39

BILL DIED at his home in Belmont, Mass., on Oct. 4, 1991. Courageous and uncomplaining through a long illness, he at least had the satisfaction of celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary last April with his wife, Cornelia.

Bill, whose family owned several newspapers on Long island, left Princeton during senior year to get started in the family business. After WWII he earned a degree in journalism and a master's in business at Syracuse, but he maintained his affiliation with our Class to the end. When his family later sold the papers, they acquired the Syracuse baseball club of the International League. In 1953 Bill sold the club and moved to Belmont, There he established the Hofmann Insurance Agency, which he headed until he retired in 1978, leaving the business in the hands of his sons William III and Stephen. He and Cornelia were then able to enjoy some travel, while Bill's pursuit of a lifelong hobby led him eventually to the presidency of the New England Chapter of the Natl. Assn. of Watch and Clock Collectors.

To Cornelia, their sons and two granddaughters, whom Bill cherished, we offer our sincere sympathy.
