William B. Hawke Jr. ’46

BILL HAWKE DIED May 18, 1993, just after moving to Charleston, S.C., where he had hoped to enjoy his retirement next to the ocean, which he loved. Bill prepared at Lawrenceville. When Uncle Sam called, he joined the air force as an armorer, photographer, and nose gunner on a B24, winning the Air Medal for his service in India.

Back at Princeton after the war, Bill was an active undergraduate, playing baseball and basketball and taking part in the Flying Club, the Outing Club, and the Prelaw Society. He was a member of Tiger Inn and majored in history.

Bill's professional career took him to Cleveland with Texaco, then to Alexandria, Va., until he moved with his family to New Cumberland, Penn. Bill attended the 40th and according to his widow, Lillian, had looked forward to seeing us all again at the 50th.

Besides his widow, Bill leaves a brother George '5 1; a daughter and soninlaw Melissa and William Faherty; a daughter, Glynis; and a niece Deborah Hawke '80. To all his family, the class sends its sincerest sympathy and mourns the passing of a dear friend and loyal classmate.
