William C. Van Siclen ’42

Body

BILL DIED Sept. 21, 1994, of lung cancer. He was 73. At Princeton, Bill was a member of Tower Club. He served for 37 years as a member and the head of Princeton's Alumni Schools Committees in California. Classmate and fellow Californian Ed McKeown recently announced the establishment of a William Van Siclen Service Award to be presented annually by the Princeton Club of Northern California.

During WWII, Bill joined the Navy V-7 program; he served two years with great distinction in the Pacific Theater, aboard a destroyer. He worked for Standard Oil of New Jersey, graduated from Harvard Business School, and then worked for Union Oil in L.A. Bill also worked for Dare Industries and Crown Zellerbach. He retired in 1988.

In 1953, Bill married Margaret Hightower, who survives, as do six children-William Jr., John W. '78, Melissa, Kimzey, Charles, Edward '86-and two grandchildren. The family scattered his ashes around the base of the Golden Gate Bridge. To the entire family, we offer our deepest and most heartfelt condolences.
